Top 10 Cleanest Cities in India With Latest Updates

Recently, Swachh Survekshan a concept by the Indian government announced the list of cleanest cities in India where people give feedback of the place for the survey which covers a total of 4,242 cities in India, and on August 20, 2020, the list of cleanest and dirtiest cities was announced. Here are the top 10 cleanest cities in India as per the ranking.

Khargone is the city in the state of Madhya Pradesh and is an administrative headquarters of the Khargone District. The city is located on the banks of River Kunda and is known for its cotton and chili pepper production.

It is one of the city which was named India’s fastest-moving cities and it is the 23rd biggest city in the state of Madhya Pradesh.  It was ranked between 10-20 in previous Swachh Surveykshan in previous years and currently, it stands in 10th place with a score of 5158.36 according to the survey.

Earlier known as Chanda, Chandrapur is the city and municipal corporation in Chandrapur district located in the state of Maharashtra. It is a fort city founded by Khandkya Ballal Sah, a Gond king of the 13th century.

It is situated on the banks of the confluence of Irai River and Zarpat River and the region is rich in coal seams. Due to its richness in coal seams, it is nicknamed as ‘black gold city’. The city of Chandrapur is ranked 9th in 2020 Swachh Surveykshan with a score of 5178.93.

New Delhi Municipal Council located in the city and national capital of New Delhi covers an area of 43.7 sq km. It is one of the three statutory urban regions of Delhi which consists of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), and the Delhi Cantonment Board. In the 2020 survey, NDMC has secured a score of 5193.27 and has been ranked in 8th position.

One of the largest cities in the state of Gujarat and former capital of the state, Ahmedabad is the administrative headquarters of Ahmedabad district and is the seat of Gujarat High Court.

According to Forbes, Ahmedabad is one of the fastest-growing cities of the decade and the newspaper Times of India chose Ahmedabad as the best city to live in. According to the Government of India, Ahmedabad was one of the first cities that were chosen as a part of development under the term smart city, and in 2020 according to Swachh Surveykshan, the city has ranked 7th position with a score of 5207.13 points.

Vijayawada is the city located on the banks of River Krishna and is surrounded by Eastern Ghats hills. Geographically, the city lies in the center of Andhra Pradesh and is the second-largest city in the state.

Vijayawada has been described as the commercial, political, educational, and Media capital of Andhra Pradesh. The city is one of the densely populated urban areas and has been recognized as the Global city of the future. The city has been ranked 6th in the 2020 survey with 5270.32 points.

Mysore officially called Mysuru is the city located in the Indian state of Karnataka. The city served as the capital city of the Kingdom of Mysore for nearly 6 centuries and was ruled by the Wadiyar Dynasty.

It is the heritage city with many palaces and heritage structures. The city is famous for its palace and festivities and the most famous festival celebrated here is Dasara. The city has been in the list of cleanest cities in India for quite some years and this year it is ranked the 5th place with a score of 5298.61 points.

Located in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh, Ambikapur is the headquarters of the Surguja district and is one of the oldest cities in the state. The city was the capital city of Princely state of Surguja before Indian Independence. It is the 8th biggest city of the state and in the year 2019, Ambikapur was the second cleanest city in India. However, it stands at 4th position with 5428.31 points.

Another Maharashtra city in the list of Top 10 cleanest cities in India is Navi Mumbai. The city of Navi Mumbai is a planned city that is located on the west coast of the state. It is divided into 2 parts North and South Navi Mumbai.

It includes the parts of Raigad and Thane districts and was planned in the early 1970s. It is home to various educational, MNCs, recreational facility and active business hubs of the city. It has been ranked 3rd in the 2020 Swachh Survekshan survey with 5467.89 points.

Surat located in the Indian state of Gujarat used to be a large seaport and is now a commercial and economic center of South Gujarat. The city is famous for its diamonds and textile industries. It is known as the ‘Diamond City of India’ and is the fastest growing city and has recorded an annual GDP of 11.5%.

It has been awarded as the Best City by the Annual Survey of India’s City-Systems (ASICS) in 2013 and many such awards from various governmental and non-governmental organizations. According to 2020 Swachh Survekshan, the city of Surat stands 2nd position with 5519.59 points.

One of the most populous city and largest city in the state of Madhya Pradesh, Indore serves as the capital of both Indore District and Indore Division. It is considered as an educational hub of the state as it has both the premier institutes of India namely the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and Indian Institute of Management (IIM).

It has a rich history being a trading hub between Deccan and Delhi kingdoms. It was one of the first smart cities that was selected as part of 100 Indian cities to be developed as Smart City and has been a part of Swachh Survekshan since the year 2016. It stood 25th position in the year 2016 and has been ranked in first place for the next 4 consistent years of 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020. According to the 2020 survey, Indore bagged the first position with 5647.56 points.
