Travel Guidelines for travelling from Bangalore to Ooty by road

Ooty is a small and beautiful hill station in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, as it is in the southern part of India it is easily accessible to all the southern states. Here we give you the travel guidelines for travelling from Bangalore to Ooty by road.

  3. Opt for KSRTC Bus or
  4. There are no trains directly to Ooty but you can go to Coimbatore, from there you can go in a toy train.

Different Routes You Can Travel by Road


There are 2 routes to Ooty

1. One is by a hairpin bends.

  • Bangalore -> Gundlupet 4 hr 26 min (199.5 km) via Mysore Rd
  • Gundlupet -> Masinagudi 1 hr 6 min (39.2 km) via Mysuru – Ooty Rd
  • Masinagudi -> Ooty 1 hr (29.2 km) via Mysuru – Ooty Rd

The total distance is around 280 km.

2. Second is without hairpin bends.

  • Bangalore -> Gundlupet 4 hr 26 min (199.5 km) via Mysore Rd
  • Gundlupet -> Gudalur 1 hr 26 min (49.0 km) via NH181
  • Gudalur -> Ooty 1 hr 30 min (49.3 km) via NH181

The total distance is around 313 km.

If you are not confident driving through hairpin bends then you can take this route but little far to travel.

Guidelines to travel from Bangalore to Ooty by Road


1. The best suitable timing for travelling from Bangalore to Ooty is morning around 5 a.m. because in Bangalore development activities take place continuously and you may face some diversions in between and it is safer to drive morning for a long ride rather than night times.

2. As Ooty is in Tamilnadu state, on the way you have to cross 2 National parks Bandipur and Mudumalai. In Bandipur, private vehicles are allowed from 6 am to 9 pm, and because it’s a National park area you may encounter some animals like deers, elephants on the way hence honking, picnic, overspeed is not allowed.

3. Even you have to cross the hairpin bend Ghat section if you are opting to travel via Masinagudi, so drive slowly and safely to reach your destination to avoid accidents.

4. Don’t stop the vehicle on Highways and turning points to take selfies or photoshoot it’s dangerous. Always carry first aid and water with you, it will help in emergency cases.
